Different Types of Rhinoplasty

Which Rhinoplasty is Best For Me?

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery, is one of the most common types of cosmetic plastic surgeries performed. This, however, is hardly surprising since the nose is something that is constantly display, dead center in the middle of your face. It's no wonder this surgery is so often frequented.

So what type of nose surgery is best for me? You'd be surprised, not everyone has the same nose or needs the same surgery. There are so many different types of nose surgeries, you'd be amazed.

First, there's the bridge. The bridge can be flat, big, wide, have a bump, or have deviation. It may be too thin or it may be too bulky. The tip, it can be too short, or it may even be too bulbous or too long. As for the wing of the nose, otherwise known as the alar, they may be too wide when you smile or too round.

Aside from these surgeries, there are many surgeries that a plastic surgeon must take into consideration.

Reduction Rhinoplasty
A majority of patients seeking rhinoplasty surgery are generally concerned that the size of their nose is disproportionate with their facial features.

Areas of particular concern are the presence of a bump on the bridge of the nose, excessive width of the bridge tip, and possibly the width of the nostrils.

In the picture to the right, you see that this patient only underwent alar plasty: reduction of the nostril wings.

Augmentations Rhinoplasty
Augmentation rhinoplasty is basically the surgery where the dimensions of the nose are increased.

This is probably probably the most frequented nose surgery by Asians since their nose bridge tends to lack bridge and dimension. In this case, an implant may be used to add height and dimension to the area that is needed.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty
In essence, all rhinoplasty procedures are ethnic rhinoplasty since we must take into consideration the ethnic structure, and characteristics of the shape, along with the skin and facial proportions.

For example, Asians may prefer a more soft, delicate nose frame to go along with their soft facial features, where as a caucasian or middle eastern may prefer a more strong nose lone to go with their stronger facial features.

Post-traumatic Rhinoplasty
This procedure is for those who have undergone facial trauma. Injuries to the nose frequently lead to damage in the bone and cartilage support, which could lead to a change in their appearance due to deviation, assymetry, or problems in the air way.

Deviations of the bones and cartilages of the nose, can be reset with relatively good success rate

Skin Graft Rhinoplasty for a Piggy Nose

How Can I Correct My Piggy Nose?

Visible #nostrils ? Upturned nose? Pinched nose? Skin grafts can be very good at matching nose skin if chosen from the correct location. The inner ear or "concha" can be useful for nose tips since it may have similar pore appearance due to glands called sebaceous glands on the nose and ear. Other areas behind and in front of the ear can also be used but the skin color and texture and thickness match are critical.

Please consult with a board certified specialist who can assist you with achieving the results you seek.

What goes in and on your nose after rhinoplasty?

So what exactly goes in and on your nose after rhinoplasty?

1. External cast: the external blue cast will be molded over the nose immediately after surgery to maintain nasal bones in their new position. Kind of like a helmet to protect and secure!

2. Internal cast: also known as Silastic, is a bendable, flexible plastic nasal stent used to protect and secure the internal structure of your nose.

3. Nasal packing: After surgery, nasal packing will be inserted to soak up any immediate discharge, blood, Mucous, etc. following surgery

4. Stitches: the blue stitches will be removed on the 7th day post-op along the columella and possible alar region. White dissolvable stitches will be used along the inner inside of the nose; they will dissolve within the next few weeks

5. Depending on what the doctor recommends, many of few options can be considered for bridge augmentation: silicone, goretex, rib cartilage, donated rib cartilage, and/or fascia graft. Fat or filler can be another option as well.

🌀External + internal cast, stitches: 7th day removal
🌀Nasal packing: 2nd-3rd day removal

🔸🔹Days in Korea: 7-8 days post-op

Alar Reduction with GNG Hospital!

We are going to talk about Alar Reduction for those who has blunt and wide nose tip which can cause stress due to dull and crude impression.

* Target for Alar Reduction

1. Those who have wide, low and blunt nose
2. Those who have big alars and nostrils
3. Those who have wide nose tip even after rhinoplasty
4. Those who have wide alars even after rhinoplasty

<3 Months After Alar Reduction>

Nose is located in the center of our face and balances over all face features.
Nose shape decides over all face image. That's why many people are interested in rhinoplasty.
There are two types of Alar Reduction. One is incisional and the other is non-incisional method.

Incisional method

It's suitable for almost all the cases.  Doctor excises excessive bottom skin of both alars and suture it to reduce the size.

Non-incisional method

If one doesn't have wide nose but wide bottom line of nostrils, doctor makes small incisions under the nostrils and tie up the nostrils to gather in the center.

Finding personalized surgery method to make beautiful and natural result considering over all face feature and angle, height, volume, ratio and skin condition of alar is a key point in this surgery.
And it's very detailed surgery so 1:1 personalized consultation should be followed prior to surgery and should be performed by experienced rhinoplasty specialist.

Special features in Alar Reduction at GNG Hospital

1. Personalized surgery is possible considering over all face feature.
2. Scar fades away naturally by fine and detailed suturing although doctor excises skin.
3. Thorough diagnosis from 3D-CT scan about height, width, shape, thickness, angle and the cause of failure of 1st surgery.
4. Dr.Seong performs the surgery who has over 12 years of experience only in complicated revision rhinoplasty.
5. We can predict the result from 3D-CT scan.
6. After care system to reduce swelling and prevent from inflammation with oxygen therapy and LED light treatment ect.

GNG Hospital staff got Genio&Rhinoplasty at GNG Hospital!

Before Surgery

" Can you notice the background?

Yes, I am working at GNG Hospital!
I saw many patients before and after surgery and decided get operation based on my experience.

Working as a staff at GNG Hospital, I saw many cases of surgery. Helping many cases of surgery at GNG Hospital, I found our doctors have great skill and could see our patients are really satisfied with the surgery result! So I had no doubt for the surgery result!

I had asymmetric facial line, small chin and bulbous nose. Though I have got filler injection on my chin to improve my complex, I couldn't improve it so I decided getting genioplasty and rhinoplasty."

"No exception for staff as well! Before surgery, I had consultation with consultant and doctors in person and talked about my surgery plan. Though I have seen many patients, I felt little nervous to being a patient.

Right before surgery, I met doctors for genioplasty and rhinoplasty and consultant again and confirmed the surgery plan and design.
After final consultation, I went up to operation room for my surgery! I will be back soon. So excited and nervous now!"

After Surgery

"This is right after surgery. I didn't have much bruise on my face. Usually, I don't get swollen up and even after surgery, I wasn't swollen up like other patients. All my colleagues who are used to meeting swollen patients were really surprised with my swelling. The thing around my face is ice pack cooling down my chin."

A week post operation

"I had 3 days off from my work and start working from 7th day post operation. I didn't have any issues in working and routine life. On 7th day post operation, the cast (also known as Aqua) was removed. When you remove the cast, you can check your nose. I have been waiting today and now I could understand how our patients feel."

Two weeks post operation

"I removed silastic and got treatment. Fortunately, my swelling is going away really fast. Swelling is still remained under my chin. Swelling on the site was hard for few days after surgery but as time goes, it is becoming smoother and natural.

Three weeks post operation

"It has been 3 weeks after surgery. Usually, 2 weeks after rhinoplasty, scar on nose gets invisible and healed but my healing is slower than other patients so kept wearing tape on my nose. Recovery rate is different depend on patients. Compared to the second week pictures, swelling went away a lot!"

One month post operation

"Today I am going out for dating with my boyfriend! Now I can't find any swelling on my face. Before surgery, my chin and nose was bulbous and now my overall face become very obvious. As swelling goes down, facial line looks more natural!
One side of my chin was longer than the other side and it hasn't been perfectly fixed but improved a lot! It looks symmetric! My boyfriend is also satisfied with surgery result! I don't have any problem with eating and daily life now."

Two month post operation

"It has been two month after surgery! My face become very feminine. I don't usually take selfies but these days, I take selfies quite often. Experience being patient was really helpful to understand patients and felt much more responsible being a staff in hospital."

"In addition, I am very proud of my hospital and today, I am going for studio shooting! Thank you GNG Hospital for giving me this special experience and especially, I want to appreciate to Dr. Hong and Dr. Choi."
