Weird Smell After Rhinoplasty?

Whether it be for functional, or purely aesthetic reasons, abnormal smell weeks after rhinoplasty is a common remark we often hear from patients.

Accumulation of mucus in the nose due to the reduced mobility of the mucus blanket within the nose as well as build up of crusting can cause unusual odors from within the nose. Old blood, crusts, extraneous mucus and such that build up and eventually dry up in a concentrated area

In these instances, clearing the crust will make the problem go away.  Saline nasal spray will slowly wash away the crust without the trauma of nose blowing.  Saline nasal spray instructions post-op will have been explained to you prior to your departure from Korea if the doctor found it necessary for your case. It is also very common for hard, solidified build up to either fall from out your nose, or down your throat. These chunks can be alarming, but are generally harmless.

Strange smell is not uncommon, so you don't need to worry to much if this becomes  apparant after surgery. Let your physician know. If you are not having increasing pain, redness, swelling, fevers or drainage, its unlikely to be infection. Remember, always avoid picking or sticking anything up your nose to clean or scratch at this time! And never do anything without consulting with your physician first!

Happy Recovery!
